Goals and Desired Outcome

This proposal seeks to build three Technology Centers (named Your College Connection) in the three largest towns residing Region X.  The primary objective for these proposed Technology Centers is to enhance and encourage high-school graduates to attend (cyber) college in order to obtain the knowledge and skills required for employment in local industries.  Therefore, it is expected that the staff of each Technology Center will be working in a highly visible and collaborative manner with the local school districts.

At least one of the three proposed Technology Centers would be within a 45-minute drive from any location in this area of the state.  Therefore, the problem of post K-12 educational inaccessibility would be largely eliminated.

Although the main focus and priority would be to attract high-school graduates, the proposed Technology Centers would also be made available for any of the citizens legally residing in this section of the state—wishing to pursue higher educational goals or technical training through the use of distance education.

The purpose of these proposed Technology Centers would be to accommodate the needs of small communities in this vicinity that have the academic talent, but who do not have the monetary resources to build educational institutions for the students that wish to take a college-bound track.  This initiative will, in effect, bring big city colleges to the rural setting, making it possible for the colleges to identify and recruit previously inaccessible potential talent, provide a new revenue stream for the colleges, and also provide a quality education to communities that previously were underserved.

The desired outcome of Your College Connection will be to provide the needed education and training for the citizens of this region in order to fill every technical job that opens for area businesses and industries.  It is also desired that the college graduates coming through this high-quality educational program will spark enthusiasm for new businesses, and also attract other industries seeking relocation for the purpose of lowering their operating costs, yet retaining a healthy environment for their employees.

Desired Outcome Summary

The following represents the key elements which this grant proposal seeks to bring about for Region X:

Provide an affordable and accessible opportunity for all high-school graduates to attend college
Supply local industry with skilled and trained personnel to fill key positions needed within the company
Attract outside businesses
Decrease and substantially reduce the poverty level
Provide a healthy economic environment for the Region
