Revised: May 23, 2002 .Mark Barnett and Douglas Moody partnered in writing this grant proposal through the use of synchronous real-time video collaboration. During a period leading up to the development of the grant, Mr. Barnett and Mr. Moody used high-bandwidth resources to sketch out the parameters of the grant. Mr. Barnett found the initial grant guidelines and during their online conferences, it was mutually decided that the grant proposal found in the REFERENCES above would be pursued. Both Mr. Barnett and Mr. Moody have been in touch via E-mail during the weeks leading up to their collaboration. Mr. Moody stated that the advantages of the collaboration meant so much more to him being able to see his partner in real-time, because previously ". . . we had only been able to imagine what each other looked like. Putting a face with a name has made all the difference in the world and has made Mark not just an anonymous source, but a real partner with whom I can relate." The inspiration for the proposal came partly from the positive experience of being able to collaborate successfully through the Internet tools available to them.
The authors are final semester graduate students at The George Washington University in Washington DC. Mark Barnett comes from a sales and marketing background--the last decade dealing specifically with technology. During the 1980's he focused on church-growth marketing techniques and procedures. Douglas Moody is a businessman whose primary interests include technical writing and leading edge technology assessment and consulting. His background includes real estate management, heavy industrial and manufacturing consulting work. He also owned his own computer consulting company, a heating and air conditioning company, a cleaning company, and still does business under the name Ambassador Services. His latest endeavor is producing multimedia content for delivery via the Internet for business and education. |
