Cane Hill School. Cane Hill School was established after a meeting of the Cumberland Presbyterians on October 28, 1834. The school provided instruction for boys who desired to enter the ministry. It was also the very first institution of higher learning in the Arkansas Territory. As such, it became one of the key proponents toward convincing Congress to allow statehood for Arkansas in 1836 (Arkansas Territorial Restoration: 1835). By 1850, this school had evolved into Cane Hill College (History of Washington County, p. 130).
The picture shown above and below of the 2-story brick building housing Cane Hill College (now Cane Hill College Museum) was built in 1891 (Shiloh Museum, Springdale Arkansas).
